How your Travel Experience Impacts the World Positively

Our world is in an undeniable climate crisis and we all need to  play an active role in limiting the damage of climate change. Carbon emissions have been attributed as a major influence on climate change and we need to curb our emissions to save our natural world.

Nature Connexion was created to help bridge the gap between people and Nature. We believe that eco-conscious and transformational travel can help people heal and improve our planet’s environment.

There is currently a lot of brainstorming and much debate around how to minimise our carbon footprint. We are pleased to have found a solution; this is our carbon offset story. It can be yours too.

Carbon is emitted in almost every action we take, either directly or indirectly. Incredible organisations are working around the clock to offset carbon emissions, taking steps to mitigate the negative impact of climate change while creating positive social impact.

The travel industry on a global scale is said to account for about 8% of the world’s carbon emissions and there are ways to resolve this issue. Travel can, in parallel, be used as a force for good.

While flying is usually a major carbon emitter of a travel experience, other factors play a role. Hotels can import food to cater to the tastes of their guests and use air-conditioning units; transfers by road or by boat represent other factors that increase a person’s carbon footprint.

At Nature Connexion we are wholly aware of the impacts our travel experiences and retreats could have on a broader scale. We have created a series of solutions that help our guests offset possible negative impacts: we support local businesses and projects, those that regenerate the environment and endeavour to leave the world better than we found it.

The best part is, there is nothing for you to do. From the moment you book, your carbon offsetting journey begins.

Credible Carbon

We are a proud partner of Credible Carbon, which promotes transparent, accountable access to the carbon market and supports projects that alleviate poverty in Africa. With a strict vetting process, they ensure that carbon offsetting funds are sent to projects that are truly making a positive impact on the environment and communities.

Their process is approved by the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change. To date, Credible Carbon has offset an incredible 1,384,511 tonnes of CO2 and has sent over ZAR40 million to projects.

When you make your booking with Nature Connexion, Credible Carbon helps us calculate the carbon emitted from each means of transport used by our participants. We then purchase carbon credits on your behalf. The money from these carbon credits is redistributed by Credible Carbon to projects which are open for funding.

As Credible Carbon budgets credits for each project, the projects we support change over time. This is really exciting as we know that our funds are being used by those who need it most. We will keep you informed as to which project is supported by your carbon credits.

Other eco-conscious positive impacts

We collaborate with local community projects that promote permaculture. This enables our guests to not only interact with local people but also to witness the positive impact their trip has made.

We also support Ecologi, an organisation that channels funds to partner projects that are working on climate projects around the world. A simple and automated process: you can see where your funds are allocated to. For as little as $1 a week you can carbon offset all aspects of your life.

So, tell us: which practice are you putting in place to travel more responsibly and minimise your carbon footprint?
